Who it's for

Anyone whose customer is a business on its first day:

• business insurance agents and commercial bankers

An entity's first ninety days is when almost all of that gets bought for the first time, which is why the effective date matters more than the name.

Where it comes from

The Iowa Secretary of State publishes every active business entity in the state as an open data file. It is a snapshot of the present, not a history — so a new registration only exists as the difference between two consecutive days, and nobody can reconstruct last month's after the fact.

Each morning the file is downloaded and compared against the day before. What is new gets filtered three ways: to the four metro counties using the filing's own coordinates, away from the commercial registered agents whose downtown address tells you nothing about where a business actually is, and away from reinstatements that are new to the file without being new businesses.
